The first annual Melon City Bike Club 'Ride Around Many Counties' occured Saturday, May 30th. Over 50 participants met at Muscatine's Discovery Park and then began a 60 mile bike tour along county roads. Participants rode at a wide variety of paces as they made their way to the designated sag stops.

The first stop was an impressive breakfast buffet provided by Bob and Delores Hein. A couple of riders were attacked by a swarm of bees, but successfully made it in for burritos. Most of the riders then continued on to Gin's Bar/Restaurant in Lone Tree and enjoyed more fuel in the form of pancakes.

In West Liberty, some of the riders opted to 're-fuel' at the local food/drink establishments, while others rested at Casey's. A subtle tailwind helped guide the group the rest of the way home. Atalissa turned out to be the added bonus sag stop for some. Riders were treated to refreshing beverages and music from a pair of polka playing twins.

Having completed a challenging 60 mile ride, the cooler full of refreshments that awaited riders as they returned to Discovery Park was eagerly enjoyed.

Below are some of the pictures taken at the rest stops. Everyone seemed to have a great time and was able to make the event fit their bicycling agendas. The event turned out to be a great way for bike club members to enjoy socializing while gaining fitness. Not to mention touring the great cycling roads of eastern Iowa.
