3.  Email newsletter content to Peg - pjheither@yahoo.com.  A newsletter will be sent

out in May - we needs dates of events and rides and other cycling-related items of interest,

such as race results, where you've been, what you've done - anything you'd like to pass

along.

4.  RAGBRAI - Deb Elliott is ready to set up campsites, so if you know of anywhere in

the overnight towns for the Club to camp - let Deb know ASAP -

5.  Greg Harper gave a report on the Melon City Criterium, May 30th.  If you can be a

volunteer to help with registration or corner marshalling, let him or Bob Hayes know.

6.  Bike Safety Rodeo is this Sat. May 1st - 9am to Noon.  HyVee parking lot.  The Club

donates helmets for the children attending and Club members help with safety demos.

IF you can help - be at the parking lot anytime during the event and Connie Mann will

put you to work.

7.  Reminder from President, Chad Bishop, that May is Bike to Work Month, Bike to

Work Week is the 17 through 21st.  You can register with the Iowa Bicycle Coalition

as a participant, to help promote and publicize bicycle usage across the state.

8.  Peg Heither, on behalf of the Club, has ordered a 3' x 6' Banner with our name

and logo on it, for use at all Club related rides and events, and to mark our campsite

on RAGBRAI.  Email pjheither@yahoo.com to use it.

9. Deb Phillips gave the treasurer's report, and collected membership fee money. She

also stated that Criterium money is starting to come in, so she's getting busy.

10.  Larry Koerhsen gave an update on county road signage: pursuing putting up

approx. 45 miles, but still lacking 1 vote on the Board of Supervisors.  One of the "No"

votes is not running for re-election, so a decision may hinge on the election this fall.

11.  Dave Cooney brought up asking the City of Muscatine to install "Trails Usage

Rules" on the riverfront trail, to ensure the safety of all the trail users.  Currently, the

dog walkers, joggers, walkers, and cyclists seem to be using the entire width of the

trail, which he pointed out is an accident waiting to happen - someone is going to get

hit, or fall into the rocks.  He envisions rules explaining: staying to the right, keeping

pets on a short leash,  yielding to pedestrians, etc.  He will pursue this idea, with the

backing of the Bike Club Membership.

12.  Downtown Bike Racks were discussed and Lindsay  , a member of the Downtown

Action Alliance will bring this to their attention. She feels that group will support installing

bike racks.  There is money from the club for purchase and installation.  Dave Cooney

is working with an individual business owner, and others in the Club are encouraged

to contact downtown businesses to get their nod to adding bike racks. The new City

Adminsitrator will be approached to get his feel of this issue, and the Club will address

his concerns or questions.

13.  Larry Koerhsen also updated the group on the next trail construction to take place.

A trail from the Weed Park Lagoon, through the Bandag Learning Center, to University,

to Solomon Ave. is on slate for development.  Solomon Ave. will be seal-coated, so

one would then have a hard surfaced route all the way to Wild Cat Den State Park.

There is $500,000 allotted for this project, and the plans are at the State (DOT) at this

time.  We could expect to see construction begin yet this year.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10pm.
